PARADOR DE IBIZA

REQUENA Y PLAZA has been responsible for the conception and execution of the interior design of the Parador de Ibiza, located in the historic fortress of Dalt Vila. Situated in the old town of Ibiza's capital, the site is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.
The studio approached the project as a balancing act between heritage conservation and the creation of contemporary spaces that meet the needs of today's traveller. This was achieved while honouring the building’s profound historical value, as well as its urban and landscape context.
The project has successfully interpreted and established a dialogue with these historic elements by incorporating the traces of the past, allowing guests to encounter Ibiza's living history throughout the entire building—whether passing through the fortress walls, relaxing in communal areas, or resting in their rooms.
The decorative style stems from a clear ambition to respect the historic architecture of Dalt Vila castle without competing with it, creating a serene, luminous, and elegant atmosphere. Consequently, there is a distinct intention to link the design with the Ibizan landscape and the building’s construction heritage, offering contemporary spaces that are, nonetheless, steeped in history.
The interior areas, which have been meticulously studied, combine high-quality contemporary materials with textures and finishes that evoke the stone, light, craftsmanship, and colour of the Mediterranean. The treatment of natural light — as powerful and ever-changing as the island itself — along with a warm colour palette and a selection of elegant yet functional furniture, contributes to an atmosphere of calm, sophistication, and respect for the historic heritage context.
Distributed across five buildings within the fortress complex, the 66 magnificent guest rooms offer an accommodation experience unique to the island. They are characterised by spectacular views, natural ventilation, materials of great warmth, and technical solutions that provide comfort without altering the historical essence of the site.
The common areas — comprising the restaurant, café, lounges, wellness area, outdoor swimming pool, and solarium — have been conceived as meeting points open to both the city and its visitors. They seamlessly blend into the urban layout and social life of Dalt Vila and the island of Ibiza.
