REQUENA Y PLAZA has designed and carried out the complete renovation of the iconic and historic Allende Salazar Palace in Bilbao, transforming it into the LETOH LETOH Bilbao hotel.
The studio’s intervention has achieved a harmonious integration between 18th-century architectural elements and modern design proposals; original details in the palace such as ornamental moldings and high ceilings have been preserved. These elements are combined with minimalist lines, smooth surfaces, and the strategic use of fine materials, creating a continuous dialogue between past and present.
The meticulous work carried out on the palace facade deserves special mention, which includes a thorough cleaning of the ashlar on the facade, as well as the restoration of its wrought-iron balconies and the Allende Salazar family crest sculpted on it.
The renovation has resulted in a 51-room hotel, where each space has been meticulously designed to preserve the historical essence while providing all the comforts of modern life.
In the common areas, the décor achieves a perfect balance between classic and contemporary. The warmth of wood merges with metallic details and a dark colour palette that evokes baroque elegance, creating intimate and welcoming environments. Decorative details such as designer lamps, clean-lined furniture, and artwork bring back the building’s history, complement the overall aesthetic, and enrich the guest's sensory experience.
The interior design stands out not only for its aesthetic beauty but also for the optimal functionality of each area. The common areas have been conceived to boost social interaction and comfort. Areas like the reception and the café have been designed to accommodate multiple uses—from informal gatherings to business meetings or even cultural events.
The public areas combine traditional and modern materials: oak wood, natural stone, and black metal profiles create a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, while minimalist furniture and decorative elements maximize comfort and space efficiency.
The rooms, meanwhile, are defined by a minimalist and functional approach. Fine materials and carefully planned lighting have been used—not only to highlight the beauty of the design but also to create a haven of calm amid the urban bustle. Transparency, colour use, and textures stand out.
